  • It All Comes Back to You

    A woman had the practice of baking bread for members of her family. She also made an extra one for a hungry passerby. She kept the extra bread on the window-sill, for whosoever would take it away….

    quasimodoEveryday, a hunchback came and took away the bread. Instead of expressing gratitude, he muttered the following words as he went his way: “The evil you do, remains with you! The good you do, comes back to you!”
    This went on, day after day. Everyday, the hunch-back came, picked up the bread and uttered the words: “The evil you do, remains with you! The good you do, comes back to you!”
    The woman felt irritated. “Not a word of gratitude,” she said to herself. “Everyday this hunchback utters this jingle! What does he mean?”
    One day, exasperated, she decided to do away with him. “I shall get rid of this hunchback,” she said. So what did she do? She added poison to the bread she prepared for him! However, as she was about to keep it on the window sill, her hands trembled. “What is this I am doing?” she said to herself.
    Immediately, she threw the bread into the fire, prepared another one and kept it on the window sill. As usual, the hunchback came, picked up the bread and muttered the words: “The evil you do, remains with you! The good you do, comes back to you!” The hunchback proceeded on his way, blissfully unaware of the war raging in the mind of the woman.
    Now this woman had a son who had gone to a distant place to seek his fortune. For many months, she had no news of him. She prayed for his safe return. That evening, there was a knock on the door. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. He had grown thin and lean. His garments were tattered and torn. He was hungry, starved and weak.
    As he saw his mother, he said, “Mom, it’s a miracle I’m here. While I was but a mile away, I was so famished that I collapsed. I would have died, but just then an old hunchback passed by. I begged of him for a morsel of food, and he was kind enough to give me his whole bread. As he gave it to me, he said, “This is what I eat everyday. Today, I shall give it to you, for your need is greater than mine!”
    As the mother heard those words, her face turned pale. She leaned against the door for support.
    She remembered the poisoned bread that she had made that morning. Had she not burnt it in the fire, it would have been eaten by her own son, and he would have lost his life!
    It was then that she realized the significance of the words: “The evil you do, remains with you! The good you do, comes back to you!”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Our actions and words are born from our thoughts. When we think thoughts of harming others, it is like tossing a dagger at the sky. Sooner or later it falls back on us. When we think kind and loving thoughts it is like tossing fragrant flowers at the sky. Sooner or later they return to adorn us!
    A simple way to treat negative thinking is by considering such thoughts like a shepherd treats his wandering sheep. Firmly, but lovingly he brings the sheep back into the flock. We can use the word “Cancel” in our mind every time our thoughts wander to subjects we do not wish to dwell on. It is a simple but effective remedy!
    “The evil you do, remains with you! The good you do, comes back to you!”
  • Beauty of Plants
    A little girl was enjoying the beauty of the garden in her home. Her father had a good collection of rare and exotic plants. He grew them with tender care. garden-plantsThe girl was fascinated by a plant full of fine and fragrant flowers. She went near the plant and enjoyed its beauty and the fragrance of its fine flowers. Suddenly she noted that the plant was growing in a heap of filth. She could not tolerate the presence of dirt at the bottom of the plant with such fantastic flowers.
    She conceived a plan to clean the plant. She pulled the plant with all her might and uprooted it. She then carried it to the tap and washed the shoot and roots in running tap-water till all traces of dirt were washed away. She then placed the plant on a clean stone and went away, thinking that she had done a great deed indeed. Later her father came to the garden and saw the uprooted plant. Its flowers and leaves had wilted and the plant had almost died in the scorching sun. His little daughter ran to him to exhibit her achievement. ‘I have cleaned it, Daddy, she reported innocently. It was placed in dirty soil. Now it is clean.
    The father showed her how her treatment had almost killed the plant. He told her that he had collected the filthy soil and placed it to cover the plant’s roots as it was the best medium to grow that plant. It could grow up healthily and produce fine flowers only if grown in filthy soil. She was sad that the plant had suffered and withered by her cleaning.
    Moral: A great gardener mixes the right soil for each of his plant. In the same way God provides each of us with the best environment required for optimum growth though it might appear unpleasant at times.
  • Positives in Negatives
    A young woman was sitting at her dining table, worried about taxes to be paid, house-work to be done and to top it all, her family was coming over for Thanks giving the next day. She was not feeling very thankful at that time.think-positive
    As she turned her gaze sideways, she noticed her young daughter scribbling furiously into her notebook.
    My teacher asked us to write a paragraph on “Negative Thanks giving” for homework today, said the daughter.
    She asked us to write down things that we are thankful for, things that make us feel not so good in the beginning, but turn out to be good after all.
    With curiosity, the mother peeked into the book. This is what her daughter wrote:
    1. I’m thankful for Final Exams, because that means school is almost over.
    2. I’m thankful for bad-tasting medicine, because it helps me feel better.
    3. I’m thankful for waking up to alarm clocks, because it means I’m still alive.
    It then dawned on the mother, that she had a lot of things to be thankful for!
    She thought again….
    She had to pay taxes but that meant she was fortunate to be employed. She had house-work to do but that meant she had her own home to live in. She had to cook for her family for
    Thanks giving but that meant she had a family with whom she could celebrate.
    Moral: We generally complain about the negative things in life but we fail to look at the positive side of it.
  • Gratitude can Change Destiny
    There was a small bird living in a desert. With no sign of greenery the bird used to hop around on the hot sand through the day.
    god-and-bird
    He went and asked “O little bird! What are you doing in this hot desert? Can I do something for you?”
    The little bird said, “I am very pleased with my life, but this heat is unbearable. Both my feet are getting burnt. Only if there was a tree here, I’d be delighted”.
    The Angel said, “Growing a tree in the middle of a desert is beyond my scope. I am to going meet God, let me speak to him and ask if he could fulfill your desire”.
    The Angel asked God, if he could help the bird. God said, “I could grow a tree, but her destiny doesn’t allow it. And I can’t change that. However, you can give her my message, which will help her survive the heat. Ask her to hop with one foot at a time. That way she can rest the other one for a while and change foot often. This way only one of her foot will have to bear the heat and other one will be able to rest and recover. Also tell her to remember all the good things that have happened in her life and be thankful to God for that.
    The Angel came back to where the bird was and gave her this message from God.
    The bird was delighted by the idea and thanked him for the effort he made to make her comfortable.After a few days, the Angel was crossing the same desert and thought of checking on the little bird.
    He saw the bird sitting on a big green tree, right in the middle of the desert.
    The Angel was happy to see the bird in comfort but was very disappointed with God who suggested that there was no tree in the bird’s destiny.
    He went to meet God and told him the whole story.
    And God replied, “I never lied to you. There was no tree in the bird’s destiny. However, after you gave her my message, which asked her to be grateful to God for the kind things, she did put those words to action. She remembered every possible thing from her life and thanked God with a pure heart. I was moved with her feeling of gratitude and that’s what made me change her destiny. The Angel was pleased with the answer.
    A small bit of gratitude for all that we have in our lives can bring so much more into it.
  • Four Burning Candles
    In a room there were four candles burning. The ambiance was so soft you could hear them talking.
    4-burning-candlesThe first one said, “I am PEACE, however nobody can keep me lit. I believe I will go out.”
    Its flame rapidly diminishes and goes out completely.
    The second one says, “I am FAITH. Most of all I am no longer indispensable, so it does not make any sense that I stay lit any longer.”
    When it finished talking a breeze softly blew on it putting it out.
    Sadly, the third candle spoke in its turn. “I am LOVE. I have not gotten the strength to stay lit. People put me aside and don’t understand my importance. They even forget to love those who are nearest to them.”
    And waiting no longer it goes out.
    Suddenly a child entered the room and saw three candles not burning. “Why are you not burning you are supposed to stay lit till the end.”
    Saying this the child began to cry. Then the fourth candle said, “Don’t be afraid, while I am still burning we can re-light the other candles, I am HOPE.”
    With shining eyes, the child took the candle of Hope and lit the other candles.
    The flame of Hope should never go out from our life and that each of us can maintain HOPE, FAITH,
    PEACE and LOVE.
    Moral of the story:
    Hope never abandons you. You abandon hope. Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams.
    Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do.
  • GOD’S EMBROIDERY
    480px-flower-of-life-small-svgWhen I was a little boy, my mother used to embroider a great deal. I would sit at her knee and look up from the floor and ask what she was doing. She informed me that she was embroidering.
    I told her that it looked like a mess from where I was, the underside. I watched her work within the boundaries of the little round hoop that she held in her hand.
    She would smile at me, look down and gently say, “My son, you go about your playing for a while, and when I am finished with my embroidering, I will put you on my knee and let you see it from my side.”
    I would wonder why she was using some dark threads along with the bright ones and why they seemed so jumbled from my view.
    A few minutes would pass and then I would hear Mother’s voice say, “Son, come and sit on my knee.”
    This I did, only to be surprised and thrilled to see a beautiful flower or a sunset. I could not believe it, because from underneath it looked so messy.
    Then Mother would say to me, “My son, from underneath it did look messy and jumbled, but you did not realize that there was a pre-drawn plan on the top. It was a design. I was only following it.
    Now look at it from my side and you will see what I was doing.”
    Many times through the years I have looked up to my Heavenly Father (God) and said, “Father, what are You doing?”
    He has answered, “I am embroidering your life.”
    I say, “But it looks like a mess to me. It seems so jumbled. The threads seem so dark. Why can’t they all be bright?”
    The Father seems to tell me, “My child, you go about your business of doing My business, and one day I will bring you to Heaven and put you on My knee and you will see the plan from My side.”
    The STRUGGLE you’re in TODAY is developing the STRENGTH you need for TOMORROW
  • A Black Spot
    professorOne day, a professor entered a classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They waited anxiously, at their desks, for the test to begin. The professor handed out the question paper, with the text facing down, as usual. Once he handed them all out, he asked his students to turn the page and begin.
    To everyone’s surprise, there were no questions; just a black dot in the center of the page. The professor, seeing the expression on everyone’s face, told them, “I want you to write what you see there.”
    The students, confused, began the inexplicable task.
    At the end of the class, the professor took all the answer papers and started reading each one of them, aloud, in front of the whole class. All of them had described the black dot, trying to explain its position in the middle of the sheet, etc.
    After he had read aloud all the answers, the professor began explaining, to the now silent class –
    “I am not going to grade you on this! I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot. The same happens in our lives. We have a white paper to observe and enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots. Our life is a gift and, we always have reasons to celebrate —the nature renewing itself every day, our friends around us, the job that provides our livelihood, the miracles we see every day…
    However, we insist on focusing only on the dark spots — health issues that bother us, lack of money, complicated relationships, disappointment with a friend, children not studying well, and so on.
    The dark spots are very small compared to everything life provides us with; yet, they are the ones that coagulate our minds.
    Take your eyes away from these black spots. Enjoy each moment of your life, each blessing.”
Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, “Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you.
    Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done. And the devil Keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad Habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.) .
    Whatever it is….You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven.
    devils-33926_960_720He’s just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you. The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness, He Not only forgives you, but He forgets. It is by God’s grace and Mercy that we are saved.
  • A Big Dream !!
    There was a boy whose father was a horse trainer. And because of his father’s job, they had to keep moving from stable to stable, from ranch to ranch, training horses. silhouette-41826_960_720The boy’s schooling was, thus, constantly interrupted. One day at school, his teacher asked him to write about what he wanted to be when he grew up. He did not hesitate a minute and wrote a seven-page paper about his aim to be an owner of a horse ranch. He wrote down many details, drew a location of buildings and stables and even a detailed house plan.
    The papers were graded, and the boy received his paper back with the word “F Grade” scrawled on the front page. After the class, he approached the teacher and asked: “Why did I get an F Grade?”
    The teacher responded: “I had asked you to write about a realistic dream. For a boy like you, who has no money, no resources and who comes from itinerant family, this dream is too far-fetched. There is no possibility that you will reach your goals one day.” Then the teacher offered to write the paper again with a more realistic view, about a more achievable dream. Later at home, the dispirited boy told his father the events of the day and asked his father how he should act. His father answered: “A decision of such importance should be made by you, without interference from anyone; so you have to make your own mind on this”
    After a few days, the boy approached his teacher with another paper. To the teacher’s surprise, there were no changes made to the paper, it was the exact same description of his dream. To answer the teacher’s questioning look, the boy said:
    “Keep the ‘F‘ and I will keep my dream”
    The boy, known as Monty Roberts, is presently, the owner of a 4,000-square-foot house in the middle of a 200-acre horse ranch. Roberts’ first book, The Man Who Listens to Horses was published in 1996 and stayed in the New York Times Bestsellers list for 58 weeks, selling more than five million copies worldwide, including translations into over 15 languages. Three documentaries on Roberts have been released; also, he has his own television show on Horse & Country channel, Backstage Pass with Monty Roberts. He has received an honorary doctorate in animal psychology from the University of Zurich in Switzerland, amongs’t several other accolades. He still has that school paper, which is framed over his fireplace.
    Moral: You have to follow your heart and never let anyone to steal your dreams; if you fall behind, run faster. Never give up, never surrender, and rise up against the odds.
  • Important things in life – Love, Friendship & Freedom
    There was a boy, whose family was very wealthy. One day his father took him on a trip to the country, where he aimed to show his son, how poor people live. So they arrived to a farm of a very poor family, as he considered. They spend there several days. On their farm-boyreturn, the father asked his son, did he like the trip.
    “Oh, it was great, dad“– the boy replied. “Did you notice, how poor people live? “. “Yeah, I did“– said the bay. The father asked his son to tell in more details about his impressions from their trip“.
    “Well, we have only one dog, and they have four of them. In our garden there is a pool, while they have a river, that has no end. We‘ve got expensive lanterns, but they have stars above their heads at night. We have the patio, and they have the whole horizon. We have only a small piece of land, while they have the endless fields. We buy food, but they grow it. We have high fence for protection of our property, and they don‘t need it, as their friends protect them. “
    The father was stunned; he could not say a word.
    Then the boy added: “Thank you, dad, for letting me see how poor we are.
    This story shows that the true wealth as well as happiness are not measured by materials things. Love, friendship and freedom are far more valuable.
